Food Safety
Elk Grove Milling, Inc. is committed to the manufacturing of safe horse feed and is a medication-free facility. Equine health is the first and foremost priority in any of the manufacturing processes. Medications, including ionophores, are not allowed on-site at any time, and at no point does EGM equipment, trailers, or personnel have contact with any medicated ingredients.
Elk Grove Milling, Inc. participates in frequent third-party audits that follow human-food-grade inspection practices and protocols.
Supplier Management Program
Elk Grove Milling, Inc. has a stringent previous haul policy on any of the inbound commodities where equipment must meet the same medication-free standard as any EGM equipment. Trailers and loads are thoroughly vetted through documentation and verification. Established relationships with these trucking companies are utilized, with repeat drivers who know the enforced processes and expectations that comply with and exceed Federal and State food/feed safety standards. Furthermore, EGM’s proprietary blend of vitamins and minerals (equine premix) is made on a strictly regulated non-medicated line and is exclusively transported on EGM equipment.
Nutritional Testing
Elk Grove Milling, Inc. uses NIR technology on-site to monitor incoming raw materials, check mixes and verify the finished product meets the guaranteed analysis. In addition, Stable Mix feeds are continually reviewed and tested for accuracy by third party nutritionists.
Commodity Formulation
At Elk Grove Milling, secondary products play a vital role in the formulation of our feeds. With the combination of primary commodities and secondary commodities, our feeds have been specifically designed in partnership with animal nutritionists to achieve complete animal nutrition. By using these secondary products, in addition to locally farmed hay, and organic minerals, we not only achieve a top quality, nutritionally complete line of feeds, but a sustainable and economically wise feeding choice as well.

Recognizing that forage is important in a horse’s diet, the base for Stable Mix feeds is hay. In addition to farming over 1,000 acres of our own hay, we select only high-quality hay from long-time grower partners. Their hay is tested for consistency before adding in a vitamin/mineral supplement, and pre/probiotics to help maximize gut health and encourage better digestion of the feed.
